La Foresta Pluviale di Sinharaja, dichiarata Riserva della Biosfera nel 1978, è una delle foreste tropicali meglio conservate di Sri Lanka, rifugio per molte forme di vita in pericolo, sia vegetali che animali. Qui è possibile ammirare specie endemiche uniche al mondo.


Dense, dark, wet and mysterious - Sinharaja is a primeval forest for meditation, relaxation and for scientific exploration. This relatively undisturbed expanse of primary forest is a Sri Lankan heritage - the last patch of sizeable lowland evergreen Rain Forest still remaining more or intact or undisturbed in our island. The value of forests such as Sinharaja are well known for their functions as watersheds and store houses of great biological wealth. It is a rich treasure trove of nature with a great diversity of habitats and a vast repository of Sri Lanka's endemic species found no where else in the world. Sinharaja therefore, represents an irreplaceable genepool, a refugia for all those rare and endangered forms of life, both fauna and flora.

Per una vera esperienza di vita nella natura provate il Tree Tops jungle Lodge, completamente immerso nella foresta vergine. Le sistemazioni sono semplici e consistono in capanne costruite con un mix di legno e fango. Non c'è energia elettrica e le notti sono nere. I pasti vegetariani sono cucinati sul fuoco all'aperto. Le famiglie del personale sono incoraggiate a coltivare riso e ortaggi biologici nei loro appezzamenti di terreno, per garantisce al lodge una fornitura di alimenti biologici sufficiente per tutti.


Tree Tops is a real jungle experience and living in harmony with nature. Accommodation is in simple tree and mud huts blending with impressive surroundings of bush-jungle virgin forest, rocky hills, and wildlife. There is no electricity, nights are black, bathing is primitive at a freshwater well, and the mainly vegetarian meals are cooked native style on open fire. Staff members' families are encouraged to grow organic vegetables and rice on their plots of land, and this ensures a supply of organic food for the lodge.
