who are we
Camelus Tour Operator è specializzato in viaggi alternativi e responsabili in Croazia, Bosnia Erzegovina e Tunisia. Camelus è nato dall'amore di Franz per i viaggi in moto e in fuoristrada, sempre avventurosi! Francesco "Franz" Meriani Merlo, classe 1972 è un farmacista e un grande appassionato di viaggi e di volontariato. Ha girato (quasi) tutta l'Europa in sella alla sua amata moto BMW (ora d'epoca), in circa 10 anni. Poi, una volta diventato papà ed aver (momentaneamente) "appeso il casco al chiodo" si è dedicato ai viaggi in fuoristrada, sia in Europa (I, A, SLO, HR, F, E, P, GR...) sia in nord Africa. Franz fa parte anche di GdS.
Antonela: nata in Istria nel 1973, è l'anima istriana di.... Istrialand. Contadina doc , per lei le viti, gli olivi, gli alberi da frutto non hanno segreti. Lo stesso vale per l'allevamento e poi per la preparazione del prosciutto crudo istriano, salsicce, pancetta ecc. E per il pane e la pasta fatta in casa, per i dolci, le torte... Oltre a tutto ciò, Antonela se la cava nella guida del 4x4 oltre che del trattore :-)
Mohamed Belgacem: Nasce nell'oasi di Ksar Ghilane nel 1973. Ha iniziato a lavorare come guida a 7 anni: dopo la scuola accompagnava i turisti ai margini del deserto, con l'asino e il calesse. Ora possiede un piccolo caffé‚ a lato della pista (da pochissimi anni asfaltata) che arriva all'oasi, e continua a lavorare come guida coi dromedari o con i fuoristrada, percorrendo le piste e le dune delle regioni dove è nato e vive.
Roberto Rolandi: Nasce a Milano nel 1947, laureato in ingegneria al Politecnico. Da sempre appassionato di montagna da circa 15 anni si dedica anche ai viaggi nel deserto del Sahara (Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritania, Marocco, Libia...). Dopo aver viaggiato da solo o come "partecipante" a numerosi viaggi, collabora ora con Tunisialternativa come Staff per i viaggi in Algeria.
Francesco "Franz" Camisasca: classe 1980, vice istruttore sub, attività alpinistica ed escursionistica di vario genere. Nel 1998 Spedizione in Ladakh per arrampicare il monte Khanghiatze. Dal 1999 ad oggi fuoristrada anche agonistico, ad oggi assistenza logistica per viaggi in Tunisia e Libia con camion 4x4 in collaborazione alcuni t.o. italiani.

social responsability
Da anni proponiamo una Tunisia... "non commerciale", lontana dagli stereotipi che riguardano questa bella e piccola nazione. Non mi riferisco al "classico" turismo balneare (che con noi non c'azzecca), mi riferisco proprio ai "viaggi nel deserto", che per i "non adetti ai lavori" sono già una cosa molto alternativa/avventurosa. Ma vista "dal di dentro" invece i viaggi nel deserto sono diventati un prodotto molto standard e commerciale... ma non nel nostro caso. Noi speriamo e crediamo di riuscire a proporre un viaggio che abbia ancòra uno "spirito", e che non sia un "pacchetto" pronto stile "alpitour" (senza offesa)....
Questo nostro modo di fare nasce dal mio modo di vivere e di pensare, ed è stata affinata da vari anni di collaborazioni con alcune Onlus che operano in Sahara.

Andremo a visitare con delle guide locali uno o un paio di Parchi Nazionali, nati per salvaguardare degli ecosistemi particolari, rari e fragili. Uno di questi in particolare conserva l'ultimo lembo di savana africana in Tunisia.

In Italy we are rather competive on quotes: 770 euro/person including ferry boat (cabin with bed) and ticket for the 4x4, ***Hotel in Tunisi and Matmata, 1 4x4 of the Staff to follow the teams that join our raid, 2 persons of Staff, satellite phone, 2 gps, satellite maps... and 8 years of experience. This experience have no "euro-value"... but more! this is the most important thing of the raid.
After 8 years spent up and down in Tunisia, we can offer something important: a real "ethnic" and "social" approach to the people we will meet there. Because we know them, we know the single families we will visit, they are our friends, we call them by name. It is important that 4x4 enthusiastast undestand that in a raid in the desert, the cultural and ethnic approach is much more important than to "jump on the dunes leaving the brain at home". If someone desire that... a 95 euro GPS and some garmin tracks are enough. But we are talking about all a different experience...

From Your hometown to Genova, check in and embarkation in the ferryboat.
Day 2
disembarkation, dinner and night in the 3*** hotel in Tunis (please notice that 3*** in Tunisia are not "european level" 3***)
Day 3
H. 08.30 departure to the historical site of Matmata.
Lunch on the road (truckers' restaurants)
Dinner and night in a 3*** Hotel in Matmata, with swimming pool.
Lap km: 470
fuel: along the road (fill to the top in Matmata Nouvelle for the next day lap)
Day 4
H. 08.30 departure to Oasis of Ksar Ghilane, by dirt tracks in desert environment (rocky highlands, few sand). Box-lunch (everyone must think for himself: we suggest to bring some travel-food and beverages from home: in Ksar Ghilane you can buy only very basic and few things!)
Dinner with your own food or dinner in the camping restaurant.
Night in your own tend on the dunes or in camping-bedouine tend.
Lap Km: 125
Fuel: in Ksar Ghilane (but is not 100% sure they have it)
Water: at the departure in Matmata or at the arrival in Ksar Ghilane
Day 5
Free day to do what do you prefer:
* off road driving on the dunes, with the Staff, to the ancient roman empire fort (Limes tripolitanus)
* horse trekking or camel
* quad excursions
* relax in the "natural therman source"
* bagno turco (a pagamento)
* visit to our bedouine friends
Dinner with your onw food or dinner in the camping restaurant.
Night in your own tend on the dunes or in camping-bedouine tend.
day 6
in Ksar Ghilane he who has less than 300km of fuel distance, will have to fill to the top the tank of his 4x4. If you need the Staff can bring up to 80 liters of fuel.
H. 8.30 departure to Douz via elBibane or via El M'razig, along dirt traks and sand dunes. Douz is a nice and lovely small desert town. There you have Hotels, restaurants, you can shop for handicrafts
NOTICE: if some vehicles are not suitable for the dunes, they will have to drive along the asphalt road to Douz. We will meet there.
Lunch-box along the dirt tracks. Dinner in Douz, wherever you prefer. Night in your tend in the dunes or in Hotel.

Day 7
H. 8.30 departure to Tozeur, one of the most interesting desert cities in Tunisia. We will cross the salt lake and then travel along the mountains.
Lunch-box (Box-lunch: everyone must think for himself). Dinner wherever you prefer and night in Hotel or in camping.

food and beverages: Douz or Tozeur.
Day 8:
H. 8.30 departure to Park Bou Hedma. Bag-lunch (everyone for his own). Dinner near some poor farmers (everyone must have his own food even if they will offer us cous-cous and tea).
Night everyone in his own tend. Possibility for 4-6 persons to sleep in the bedouins' house.
