ecology and sustainability '
who are we
In 1998 Markus Peschke, the founder of Tiger Trail needed to follow his own spirit of adventure. A trip to Laos gave him a new vision. Braving the tangles of red tape, he opened the Indochina Spirit Restaurant in Luang Prabang. The restaurant has become well known to locals and tourists which was hard work in the end...and not what Markus was looking for in the beginning and in Laos.

He has always loved exploring the remote areas of Northern Laos, and started than to create therapeutic and unique eco-tours to share with others. In the beginning a way to get out of work the idea was more and more accepted from visitors and companies...so Tiger Trail Outdoor Adventures came up. From that time the love for Laos was getting even bigger and more intense as he and his team were discovering more remote and interesting activities.
Since its inception, Tiger Trail Outdoor Adventures has specialized in small group tours. Their vision is to provide unique eco-adventure excursions to individuals who wish to experience Lao life and culture, and are willing to respect the ecology, tradition, and culture of the region.
Tiger Trail Outdoor Adventures is a co-operative effort with the Lao people. Creating jobs and locally owned support businesses has been a primary goal from the start. Through these efforts, Tiger Trail has the respect of the people of Northern Laos, and this respect will be evident in the quality of your trip.

Today Tiger Trail Outdoor Adventures is the oldest and most copied Eco Tour and adventure tour provider in northern Laos and can really say "...sharing experience". Come, experience and join our team for some lifelong travel experience in the nature and with the people of Laos!

Why the name "Tiger Trail"?
well, would you not follow the steps of a tiger if you would find them along your way? NO?...well we would, that's why we are called Tiger Trail...and as every thing we do is connected to some personal adventures...it is the Tiger Trail Outdoor Adventure.
social responsability
"As a Fair Trek tour provider for Laos we proved already our work as a process rather than just a product. We follow the guidelines of sustainable tourism as defined from organizations and the government to offer tours which affect local communities and development in a positive way. In order to help we invest in selected regions and communities which are visited by our guests. Through this we make sure that money or help goes directly to where it is needed and offers opportunities for development. Creating jobs, using local products, train staff and our engagement for the Asian Elephants are just some examples.

With our operations we do not only serve with an eco-tourism based product but with a whole process that is based on our visitors and guests. With their visit we can create positive effects, short time results and a long lasting socio-economic progression"

detailed itinerary
Day 0. Flight to Asia or to Laos and connect to Vientiane. Please organize your own travel arrangements and flights to get here. Flights from Bangkok are available every day. Night trains from Bangkok connect to Laos as well.

Day 1. Arrival in Vientiane
You may arrive at any time of the day at our meeting point and hotel. Meet your guide at the hotel in the afternoon. After settling into accommodations in the center of Vientiane, we spend the afternoon exploring its magnificent colonial buildings, taking in its provincial flair. In the evening, those who are up for it can check out the nightlife...or try the local beer Lao and have a welcome dinner.

Day 2. Monasteries, Colonial Heritage, night life
City tour by TukTuk. Today we have time to become more familiar with the city and its sights such as the renovated, active monasteries (Sri Saket, Haw Pha Kaew) and, most importantly, the national monument "Pra Thrat Luang" with its famed golden paint. In the small monasteries of the city, we'll meet the friendly young monks in their saffron robes, who gladly show us their homes and describe their lives of devotion.

Day 3. From Vientiane to Vang Vieng
After breakfast, we drive north to the small city of Vang Vieng (approx. 160 km), which is tucked in among rocky cliffs and a small river and has retained its unique charm. In the afternoon, we explore a nearby cave and subsequently enjoy the sunset. Here we stay in a small guest house near the river.

Day 4. Hiking, Caving and Kayaking
This adventurous day trip brings us to hidden caves and the surrounding villages. We become part of this unbelievable landscape of rock, jungle and rivers. In the afternoon, we paddle by kayak back to Vang Vieng. The area offers other options as well, such as extensive hikes, further cave exploration and enjoyment of the expansive landscape.

Day 5. Vang Vieng - Cave*
We now travel deeper into the mountains and the green hinterland. Slowly the road winds along the slopes, over mountain passes and through small villages. In the afternoon, we reach a recently discovered cave. With adventurous spirit and our equipment, we rise into the dark and cool to investigate the wealth of this hidden place.
Spend the night in a very basic guest house (it can be very cold at night time).
* possible to visit the cave only in the dry season.

Day 6. The Adventure Takes its course - Kayaking on the Nam Ming River
After breakfast, we head out by mini-van for our river adventure (approx. 1.5 hrs). With our rafts or kayaks, we embark into the Nam Ming and paddle by the tides of the river through the wildly enchanting landscape. Equipped with sturdy rafts, life jackets, helmets and our guides, we head into a genuine adventure among rivers, forests, mountain ranges and villages. We spend the night in tents and share a campfire on the beach along the river (only in dry season, during rainy season, you overnight with a family). During this river trip, each participant must carry limited luggage. The large luggage is transported to the Lodge or Resort where you will go on the Day 9. So please bring with you only the necessary for 3 days and clothes, which dry fast.

Day 7. Trekking Day 1:
Highlands of Laos Local People - Jungle and mountains
We continue on foot, and our challenging multi-day trek takes us through the hinterland of Laos , which is difficult to reach. Our guides lead us from village to village, and we have an opportunity to observe the true, original life of the local people. We will have home-stays with the villagers and bed down with mosquito nets.
Trekking info: medium (but can be more challenging in the rainy season)

Day 8. Trekking Day 2: - Highlands of Laos - Local Peoples - Jungle
We migrate further into the remote and sparsely populated areas of the hinterland. Wilderness and agriculture co-mingle in this ancient homeland of the mountain people. Here, we meet the Hmong and the Khmu, who make their living by crop rotation and raising small farm animals. Over wildly overgrown mountains, we make our way towards the Nam Khan, which we will soon travel. Overnight in village.

Day 9. Trekking Day 3:
short trekking - Highlands of Laos, Jungle Resort, Elephant Camp
Our last trekking day brings us down into the neighboring plains. At midday, we arrive at a beautiful resort. Here we rediscover all the amenities of civilization along a lovely river. The first thing you may wish to do is to take a shower and relax! Enjoy lunch and diner at the restaurant. Go by boat to Tad Sae Waterfall* (dry from February to July) We spend the night here in this beautifully landscaped oasis. Overnight in Lodge or Resort.

Day 10. Elephant Tour - Kayak Cultural Capital Luang Prabang
On the last day of our intensive adventure, we share an unforgettable experience. Take the time to observe the elephants bathing in the river in the morning. Take 1 hour elephant riding, then start you kayak trip on the Nam Khan (25 km) to reach the cultural capital of Luang Prabang. In the evening, time remains for exploring this stunning and idyllic city. Spend the night in a nice guest house.

Day 11. Luang Prabang City tour by bike, Temples, Monasteries
There is much to see in today's itinerary, and we will accomplish as much as we can. Our focus is the history and beauty of the city. The old partially renovated colonial buildings and nearly 30 monasteries in the city are alone worth a whole day. In addition, the monastery mountain Phou Si, with its grand view of the city, offers another high point of full discoveries and experiences. We can converse with monks on the steps of the monasteries, and later stop in at one of the delicious roadside restaurants. - B -

Day 12. Relaxing in Luang Prabang
Following such an active schedule, we take a day to catch a breath, which is close to the souls of the Laotian people. Pick-nick lunch will be served at the waterfalls.

Day 13. Mekong River and Pak Ou Cave
Today, you wrap up this shorter version of our trip, but there is still time for a bit more adventure.
