Lorena Hi, I'm Lorena, one of the creators and referents of Vacanzefaidate. I really love adventure travels, and in 2004, when I was in Africa, I began collecting useful addresses and informations, and had the idea of creating a network dedicated to responsible tourism for all those travelers who are tired of usual package tours and who want to travel in a different way. Our network Vacanzefaidate, thanks to the valuable collaboration of many people who believed in our project, has now become a source where itÕs possible to find thousands of useful informations and proposals to travel in an ecological and, finally, more ethical and sustainable way. A network where people can meet other people, a different place where every day itÕs possible to find the fairest idea. For me, responsible tourism means bringing tourists to travel in harmony with nature, culture and local traditions. It means that local people should be involved in the sustainable development of their territory, in order to encourage the preservation of local traditions, and the creation of a viable economy that offers to locals job and dignity.

Fabrizio Hi, I'm Fabrizio. IÕve always been an enthusiast about travel, knowledge of other cultures and traditions and outdoor activities. IÕm the co-founder and manager of Vacanzefaidate. In this network I found a way to develop and spread my idea of tourism, which is to be right and respectful toward others and toward the environment. I consider Vacanzefaidate the biggest project and challenge I have ever taken, and a source of great personal satisfaction. Independent and responsible tourism is my only way to travel. It allows a comparison between the traveler and the host populations and represents a cultural enrichment for both. Responsible travel is the only branch of tourism that can bring a small incentive for local economies and the democratization of society, while it minimizes the impact on environment. I hope that in the future the words ŅrespectÓ and ŅecologyÓ will become more and more important in the daily life of every person.

The goal of our network is to spread and develop a new concept of tourism, and independent and responsible traveling, promoting both self-organized holidays, and holidays organized by associations and sustainable tourism circuits.

the TripOrganizer

In March 2009 was born the first Italian browser exclusively dedicated to proposals on sustainable tourism, which is an online windows which collects a list of tourist facilities and travel offers of different operators, from travel agents and tour operators to small local associations, all selected for being responsible. All proposals are shown in a preformatted travel page, and you can select and sort them by geographical position, by season and by type of services offered. There are a lot of proposals, ranging from travels to the most beautiful and remote parts of the world, to labor camps, eco-volunteer projects, hobby classes and lodging that are conscious on environmental and local economies.

Our collaborators are carefully selected through a quality questionnaire that allows us to understand who they are and in wnich way they work to reduce their touristic and environmental impact. From this year it is possible also for operators specialized in responsible scholastic tourism to load their proposals to be known by students and teachers. We are the first Italian network dedicated exclusively to schools that wish to try and illustrate to their students this new form of low impact tourism.

In our community you can find and consult a lot of useful informations and experiences of other travelers, and organize in the best way your yourself holiday.

For each travel diary you can find a feedback of other travelers who visited the same place. Of course, you can also add your personal comment.

Our highly popular message board allows everyone to exchange ideas, tips, and find other travelers with whom plan their holidays.

Vacanzefaidate is also responsible

We want to make known and to develop responsible and community tourism, helping environment, small communities and local economies. We directly connect travelers and organizers, supporting also small facilities who are operating in remote areas. We also support cooperation projects in developing countries.

In all our daily activities we try to minimize our environmental impact, using renewable energy (solar panels) and trying to recycle, reuse and save resources.

To run Vacanzefaidate.com and some affiliated websites, also operated by us, we use a green web hosting (a green server), with a sustainable environmental policy. The service we use is provided by Dreamhost.com which only uses clean energy generated by wind and sun, and which participate in plans of CO2 compensation for the protection and regeneration of the forests (certified by Green-E).

We too offer a green hosting service for partners who want to move their website on an ecological server.

Also the engineering technologies we use are responsible: for our development and management we use only open source tools (GPL) as, for example, Debian Linux, MySQL and PHP. This is because we believe that knowledge should not be a private property, but free for all humanity.
